Giovanni Savarese declares Dairon Asprilla's bicycle kick 'goal of the year'

Portland Timbers head coach Giovanni Savarese has described Dairon Asprilla’s stunning bicycle kick as the “goal of the year” after praising the player for his steady contributions to the team throughout the 2021 season.

Asprilla’s sensational goal secured the 2-0 victory for the Timbers against the San Jose Earthquakes and cemented their stance in fourth place on the Western Conference table.

The goal is already being compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s form as Asprilla chipped the ball up and positioned himself outside of the box to bicycle kick it swiftly over the goalkeeper.

After the match, fans voted his goal into SportsCenter’s Top 10.

"Goal of the Year – that’s it," declared Timbers manager Giovanni Savarese.
