Inter have confirmed that striker Lautaro Martinez has put pen to paper on a new contract at San Siro, tying himself to the club until 2026.
The 24-year-old was approaching the final 18 months of his contract, but talks over an extension had been ongoing for months and there has long been an expectancy that Martinez would ink fresh terms at some point.
Well, that day is finally here as Inter took to their official website to confirm that Martinez has agreed the terms of a bumper new five-year contract to commit himself to the club until the summer of 2026.
The announcement ends a back-and-forth saga in which Martinez has been both close to the exit door at San Siro and a certainty to stay.
Martinez spent the majority of the 2019/20 season incessantly linked with Barcelona, who were expected to launch a big-money bid to bring the Argentine over to Camp Nou, only for the COVID-19 outbreak to put an end to that.
