Luis Suarez: I really wanted to join Arsenal

Luis Suarez has revealed that he wanted to leave Liverpool for Arsenal because they were a Champions League team.

The Uruguayan talisman is the latest in a long line of world-class strikers to join the club's famous history. Suarez endeared himself to the Anfield supporters with 69 goals in 110 games between 2011 and 2014, before signing a three-year contract with Barcelona.

But, as he says, his time on Merseyside could have been cut short since he wanted to join Arsenal in 2012 to play in the Champions League.

During that summer, Brendan Rodgers and captain Steven Gerrard urged him to stay with Liverpool.

He explained to UEFA's official website: "I think I'd been at Liverpool for a year and a half when Brendan took charge in July 2012.
