The Washington Spirit announced the everlasting hiring of appearing supervisor Kris Ward, naming him the club’s professional head teach going into the 2022 season.
Ward first joined the NWSL side as technical body of workers in August 2020, serving as Team Tactical Analysis & Player Performance Development Coach. After the removal of teach Richie Burke following a league research in early August 2021, Ward was named performing head train.
“Kris guided this team through a turbulent season that ultimately caused our club’s first championship win,” stated Spirit President Ben Olsen. “When you have a look at his file, it’s clean that he’s earned this. But more than that, he has helped to foster a high quality environment for the gamers. We are very excited to preserve him with us and look ahead to the 2022 season.”
Since leading, he managed a 9-2-three report wherein both losses were forfeits due to Coronavirus-related issues. Ward then capped off his supervisor tenure through inspiring the Washington Spirit to the club’s first ever NWSL championship.
“I’m very excited to be continuing as the pinnacle coach here in Washington,” stated Ward. “We’re constructing something unique with this membership and I’m honored to continue to be a part of it.”
Prior to becoming a member of the National Women’s Soccer League aspect, Kris Ward served within the scouting branch for MLS’ Seattle Sounders FC, as an govt director of training with DC Soccer Club and as a First Assistant with the Spirit within the membership’s first 12 months in the NWSL.
Ward and the Washington Spirit will enter the NWSL’s 10th season seeking to protect the membership’s first league identify. The 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup is set to kick off March 19, wherein all teams will compete for the title until May 7.
