Lucas Hernández avoids jail time

Bayern Munich and France defender Lucas Hernández has been spared a prison sentence by a Madrid court for breaking a restraining order following a successful appeal by his defence lawyers. The Madrid Provincial High Court in September ordered Hernández to attend a hearing and potentially to accept a custodial sentence for failing to adhere to a previous ruling banning the player from contact with his girlfriend, Amelia Llorente, following an altercation in 2017 when Hernández was at Atlético Madrid and for which he was ordered to perform community service.

Despite the couple’s argument they were later reconciled, married and went on honeymoon together on the same flight. Sources consulted by AS have confirmed that had they arrived separately at Madrid’s Barajas airport they would not have been considered to be in violation of the six-month restraining order imposed on both of them but as that was not the case, Hernández was arrested and spent the night in Moratalaz jail in Madrid and subsequently charged with breaking the order and for not complying with his 31-day community service order, for which prosecutors sought a prison term of one year.

The Madrid court subsequently ordered Hernández to attend a hearing on 19 October "in order to be personally requested to voluntarily enter the penitentiary centre of his choice within ten days"

However, the successful appeal of his lawyers means that Hernández will now not face jail time providing he does not commit any other offence during the period of the four-year suspension of his sentence and he pays a fine of €96,000.
