Liverpool booked a place in the EFL Cup quarter-final courtesy of 2-0 win over Preston North End on Wednesday night.
Jurgen Klopp made 11 changes to his team from the side that beat Manchester United 5-0 in the Premier League on Sunday, handing two youngsters their full senior team debut.
The team failed to trouble the hosts for long periods, despite being firm favorites.
Instead, it was the hosts who came close to opening the scores on a number of occasions, with the first being an attempt in the 25th minute when Brad Potts unleashed a shot from the edge of the box but Adrian made a stunning save to stop the effort from flying into the roof of the net.
Preston returned again in the 28th minute, this time Sean Maguire forcing another save from Adrian.
