Times have modified in Major League Soccer and Sebastian Lletget's reasoning for his flow to the New England Revolution from the LA Galaxy is best proof of that.
Once upon a time, the Galaxy ruled the roost in those components, creating a dynasty that yielded five MLS Cups in thirteen years, and three out of 4 between 2011 and 2014. David Beckam, Robbie Keane, Steven Gerrard. The massive names all flocked to LA.
But talking to the press following a move to the Revs that might hit the $1.3m mark in General Allocation Money (GAM), Lletget made his intentions quite clear: "I need to win."
Lletget persevered: "I haven’t been able to do that at the Galaxy for one reason or every other, but I assume this is going to be the mission that I’m seeking out.”
Less than a decade in the past, Lletget might had been broadly mocked for making this pass on the idea of a preference to win silverware. But it's not just him who has struggled to win with the Galaxy - the league's flagship club are without a trophy because that 2014 MLS Cup triumph or even finished rock-backside of the overall standings in 2017.
Lletget has rather joined a crew sparkling from prevailing the Supporters' Shield with a file everyday-season points general, sitting 12 points clear in their nearest challenger.
Of course, there's a controversy to be made that Lletget wouldn't be becoming a member of the Revs if no longer for the presence of Bruce Arena. The 29-yr-antique performed the pleasant football of his career below the veteran head educate at some stage in that time together in LA in 2015 and 2016, while Lletget scored 14 desires and installation every other seven in 66 appearances throughout all competitions. It turned into Arena who brought him lower back to the United States after a tough spell in England with West Ham United.
But then, would New England have managed their Shield triumph if now not for Arena's methods? After all, the 70-12 months-old has lifted MLS Cup five instances as a head teach alongside a host of other trophies, while he's received the MLS Coach of the Year award a report 4 instances.
"I’m just super excited," Lletget said about the prospect of reuniting with Arena. "It’s sort of a full-circle moment. He’s the only that introduced me to LA Galaxy, he’s the only that gave me my first cap at the [United States] National Team. Now circling returned with him in New England, it’s installation to be some thing great."
The midfielder didn't keep lower back when asked to pick out out Arena's first-class features as a teach.
