Barcelona have agreed to hire Xavi to become their new head coach, according to reports in Spain, with Sergi Barjuan already announced as their interim coach.
Ronald Koeman was sacked by Barça on Wednesday night after a 1-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano left them ninth in La Liga.
58-year-old Koeman was given the vote of confidence by Barça's president Joan Laporta in September following a horrible start to the season, and the board made it clear they wanted Xavi to take over.
As his fellow directors agreed, Laporta has been trying to convince Xavi - as 90min confirmed - to return to the club.
With Koeman's departure, it has now become more urgent.
In early Thursday morning reports, 90min sources said that Xavi was willing to accept the role. Sport reports that the terms of the deal have been agreed - and that his brother Oscar and Sergio Alegre will be assistant coaches, with Iván Torres as a fitness coach.
Xavi's contract includes a release clause, so Barcelona will just have to agree on compensation with Al-Sadd.
After another disastrous Barcelona display - in which Memphis Depay missed a penalty - saw the club slip further off the pace in La Liga, Koeman went out on a limb. It's believed Barça officials spoke with Xavi to let him know Koeman's sacking was coming, and that he needed to make a decision on his future - whether that be in Catalunya or not.
Xavi has maintained throughout the relationship that Al-Sadd would not stand in his way should he wish to return to Barcelona, and that appears to be the decision he has made.
Barjuan's appointment as interim head coach is likely to last a couple of games; 90min understands Xavi will take over in the dugout for the 20 November derby against Espanyol.
