An Australian footballer at Adelaide United named Josh Cavallo has openly revealed his sexual orientation is gay - making him the first professional to come out in public.
The 21-year-old Cavallo made the announcement in a video that was posted on social media on Wednesday.
The A-League midfielder said he is feeling fresh comfort and is hoping to lead other footballers who may be reluctant to make the same decisions.
"There's something personal that I need to share with everyone. I am a footballer and I am gay," Cavallo said, in a video posted on Adelaide United's Twitter account.
"It's been a journey to get to this point in my life, but I couldn't be happier with my decision to come out," he said.
