Mbappe would have liked to play in the Olympic Games in Tokyo. However, he missed out and he did not play in the last edition.
"They cut the grass from under my feet", was the phrase Mbappe used to refer to the fact that his club PSG refused to let him take part in the tournament.
"When you see what France's teams achieved... We won in volleyball, handball, we reached the basketball final against USA... I hope to experience that and do the same in 2024 with a team which includes the best players at that time," he added.
Mbappe, 22, explained that he found out about the global reach of the Olympic Games in London 2012 at the age of just 13 when he watched competitions featuring stars from across the globe: "At that moment, I said to myself: 'I also want to be there. I want to take part in the Olympic Games in Paris."
The star striker for PSG and France, the current world champions, said that he feels as if he were destined to take part in that great competition. "It's in my city and my country. I have to be there," he concluded.
