Jose Peseiro, the head coach of the Super Eagles, has expressed his intention to assist his team in winning the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles last claimed the AFCON championship in South Africa in 2013.
The team didn't make the cut for the 2015 and 2019 editions, but when they returned to Egypt in 2019, they took third place.
Early this year in Cameroon, the Eagles were defeated in the Round of 16.

Peseiro is optimistic that he can help the squad recapture its former glory, though.
"I came here with one purpose: to win the next AFCON for Nigerians and my outstanding players. I have confidence because I have faith in this club and in the caliber and quantity of its players. I have followed Nigeria's football history since 1994 and other successful teams, and I want to rekindle that joy," Peseiro said on Wednesday at a meeting with Nigeria's minister of sports, Sunday Dare.
"When it comes to football in Africa, Nigeria is in the top five. I would want to express my gratitude to the minister and the Football Federation for giving me the chance to coach the national team. The adventure begins today, and I'll work around the clock to make sure we have the greatest chance of success.
In order to qualify for Cote d'Ivoire 2023, the Super Eagles will play Sierra Leone at home on Thursday.
